I would really like to experience New york and would love to work there for a few months, particularly in the media industry. I have a degree working in Directing, producing and writing for Theatre and performance and a diploma in acting. I don't mind working as an assistant or anything I am prepared to work hard but how should I go about this? Where should I look??? Do i need a visa?

Just get to New York and go to every restaurant and tell them you are willing to wash dishes. Today. You can get the media industry job later. A hotel room will be $129 for a tiny tiny room in an old building. Ask if you can sleep in the restaurant for a few nights.... like a night watchman.

You need to be prepared and have an exit plan. Also you will need support financially and otherwise. Do not believe for a second that Madonna was dropped of in Times Square with five dollars in her pocket or whatever BS amount she claimed. Just chucking in all and throwing caution to the wind these days is reckless and stupid.
